Examples of Jeep Maintenance Available From Your Jeep Dealer
Transmission Fluid Replacement
After your engine, the transmission is the hardest working system in your Jeep. It converts the raw, chaotic energy from the engine into a carefully controlled power. A series of gears in the transmission transmits this power to your wheels to allow them to move at the desired speed. Transmission fluid supplies the hydraulic power that enables the gears to shift, cools hot transmission components, and provides friction protection to reduce component damage.
Transmission fluid weakens over time and loses many of its special abilities. It becomes less effective at shifting the gears, and you could hear sounds like whining, buzzing, or humming. The fluid also loses its heat resistance and can burn. We can prevent all of these issues by replacing the fluid. We drain the old transmission fluid, replace the transmission filter, and refill the fluid.
Brake Pad Replacement
Brake pads play a vital role in your braking system. They produce friction against the wheel rotors, and the friction forces the wheels to stop. The friction material covering a pad is 1/2″ thick when it’s new, but the material slowly wears off each time you apply the brakes. Once the material drops to 1/4″ thick, the pad needs replacement.
Pads have a built-in warning system to tell you they’ve worn down. Each pad has a metal spike buried inside the material. Once the material drops to 1/4″ thick, the spike is revealed and scratches against the rotor when you brake. Once you hear a high-pitched sound from the brakes, it’s time to visit us for a pad replacement. Our technicians can replace worn pads within minutes.
Worn Wiring
Almost every system in your vehicle depends on electricity, and this power flows from the alternator to the systems that require it via a network of wiring. Every wire in your vehicle is sheathed in thick insulation to protect it against water, dirt, and heat. Despite this protection, the wiring will age, and older wires become more likely to break.
A broken wire causes several problems. It will cut off power to the system or systems that connect to it, and it can potentially cause an engine fire. Electricity continues to flow into the damaged wire, which heats up. If the wire gets hot enough, its protective insulation will burn, and this fire can spread. We can easily prevent this problem by testing and replacing any damaged wiring.
